Thanks for coming to Breakfast@Gloria's, I hope you have liked it and it has cheered up your morning. I was happy that for this last breakfast of this season, my previous breakfast partner agreed to help out, preparing the salad and rice porridge. I loved to see some enthusiastic people walked in just to have breakfast. Thanks for the help from the kitchen. As usual they were awesome. Apparently, they were still quite much of food left and so we offered happily the rest of the food to some international students who were there at the lobby, arranging things for an event at night.

Good morning, early this week, I tried something new

Saturday, 20 September 2014

Thanks for coming to the breakfast yesterday and all the amazing helped that I got in the morning as it happened to be quite challenging and stressful for me this time, for some reasons. They were things that I did not happy about, like...

1. the banana cake was pretty dry and flat as I have never ever made a cake, a proper cake that needs the cake mixer machine to mix sugar and eggs first, following proper procedure accordingly and so I had to make another time which turned out better.

2. the veggies fries were soft and soggy as I did not have full patience to get them really crispy but then they would be burn black. But the kale turned out to be fantastic, they stayed crisp like chips for long.

3. the yogurt sauce...gosh!

something that failed....

4. the sauce, yogurt sauce failed twice in making. That put in total panic and disappointment then came some improvisation, there is still a normal yogurt in the fridge.

the preparation, thursday evening...

Started at my friend's place for 3.5hours, making the bread and cake but I had to redo the cake and made more breads. In the center's Kitchen, spent about 5 hours, making bread, patties, cake and still need to cut the veggies in slices to be ready in the morning for baking. And of course, the sauce. During fying the patties, my mind was running wild with despair thoughts. A friend came by later to help in cutting the veggies, I then failed in making the sauce so that was it, time to go back and get some rest.

friday morning...

As usual, I was the first one to be in the Center, to get ready for the breakfast and I was kinda panic and stressed as there were so many things to do and no one was here yet even after 8.30am. Again, despair thoughts visited me. Until 6 amazing people arrived to help, things started to run again, faster as their willingness to help, put me back on track, They were amazing.

Till next time, see you on 17 Oct

Love,
J <3

Hello there

Brr...cold, Hello there, how was summer? Yes, autumn is setting in with some rain and chilly temperature as a start. But tell me about your summer. I have been occupied with gardening and roadtrips with friends. Here, how some of my plants look after the summer, more precisely a month ago. However, carrots arent that successful.

Dont you love the tomato chutney? Though this time, I cant taste any spiciness, maybe she had wiped the spiciness off totally but it was still good.

Thanks for coming today, even it was raining. To the main chef for this month, Swathi thanks for the great dhokla and tasty chutney. Sanna for being the cashier-lady, I have enjoyed to work with you for the first time. A good coffee for us tomorrow ya. To the people who brought or dragged their friend(s) along, bring more next time. And see you again, next month on 16.5 :)

Rava Dhokla

Hello there, how is it going?

So I have found our main chef for this friday, all the way from India, well she has been living in finland for 2 years now and she is going to prepare us the main course, a dish called Dhokla which I have no idea as well. But today, I got to taste it for the first time, with tomato chutney...mmm. I love the chili-kick in it but I know it might be already too spicy for some people, so we are going to reduce the spiciness. But have you ever waken up in the morning by chili? heh :D

Dhokla is a vegetarian food that originates from the indian state of Gujarat. It is made with fermented batter derived from rice and chickpea splits. However, there are different kinds of dhokla prepared with different kind of ingredients. Rava Dhokla is prepared with semolina. It can be eaten for breakfast, as a main course,
as a side dish or as a snack.

Oh Spring...

Oh spring, its time to have a green thumb :D

mine and taking care someone's as well :)

how did it started?

I have been asked how did I come up with this breakfast idea?

It happened so, on last summer where I was craving for some sweet stuffs like sweet rolls, cake, pancakes to name a few. These could be easily get from the shop but often too sweet for my taste and so I had to make them myself. First by checking out recipes and videos from Tube where I bumped into Jamie Oliver's cooking series, that baguette with guacamole grilled chicken looked exceptionally good that inspired me right away(it appeared in our first breakfast's menu without the chicken...hehe). Then, I heard myself saying out loud Breakfast+Coffee in Multicultural Center Gloria, thats the only place I know that one can make idea happens. Excited about the idea, immediately I shared it with one of my good friend, Gaby where she was in Malawi that time, doing her training and will be coming back to Finland before the summer ends. She loved the idea and instantly agreed to be part of the project. The next day, I brought the idea to people in center to get it official in their calendar. They loved the idea.

Other than that, Im a morning person, though I dont get up at 5 or 6 in the morning but I have made getting up early in the morning as a habit since I dont have a job, Im not working for anyone, I would start my day slow and easy, a cup of cappuccino with book or sometimes making art before making myself a good set of breakfast(not breakfast anymore by that time, brunch I would say) before going out to meet and talk with people or handle some official matters.

And starting this year, this project is funded from my own pocket. So, people who has been working hard, having a job they like or dislike, always in hurry and no time for making breakfast, I think they need to spend at least an hour in the morning/brunch time to come and enjoy a good homemade meal on a nice friday. If your job requires mainly a portable computer and wifi, bring it with you, set up a temporary cubic at matara's lobby or if the weather is awesome, get out there and work.

Till then,
have a nice sunny days :)

Thank you note - 4

Hello morning-goers!

I hope you did enjoyed the breakfast and brunch. This time, I was thrilled that my finnish teacher appeared at the door and my mother-in-law came all the way from southern finland to help me preparing the food for these 2 days, till really late at night. She was probably as exhausted as I was. Other than her, There were 2 people who gave their helping hands too; Tarja and Niina. And oh Frida for being the treasurer. And the people from the Multicultural Center. Thank you so much for your help and support.

For the veganist, Im sorry that the food wasnt fit for you but it gave me an idea that maybe there would be a Vegan breakfast next time.

Till then,
see you in the next breakfast on 11.4

5 days to go

Good morning,

How are you feeling this morning?

Im glad that my espresso machine got fixed now. The milk frother hose came off from too much pressure otherwise everything seemed to be fine. Another good news is that I have found someone to help me out.
Other than that, I have a decent to-do list for this week, starting off;

- hygenic test
- ingredients shopping and etc
- borrow a kitchen
- perhaps a visit to the employment office
- food preparation
- menu list
 and lots of sleep...haha

Have a nice sunny day :)

Tuesday, 11 March 2014

Hey morning-goers

Hello spring,

As the sun rises in the morning every few minutes earlier than the previous day, waking up is no longer a problem and as the temperature has risen as well, we just want to grab our bikes and head out early, to somewhere nice or new, an endless exploration but first you can stop by for a breakfast before continuing your journey.

Here some updates:

Im glad to find somebody to help me for the month of April and June but Im still looking for someone to help me for this month and May.

And my decent espresso machine went crazy during the cleaning process. Well, it works fine now but not the milk frother. A matter that I need to examine deeper with a screwdriver. In the mean time, only espresso is available.

So, there are 2 dates for this month and also in conjunction with celebration of Activity Center Matara's(Kansalaistoiminnankeskus) 2nd anniversary.
